About Us

Nationally there are two organizations, The American Bonsai Society (ABS) and Bonsai Clubs International (BCI), which foster local clubs and promote the education of thousands of avid bonsai practitioners. Both of these organizations publish magazines and sponsor national conventions as a benefit of membership.

Locally the Bonsai Society of the Lehigh Valley (BSLV) was established in September 1973 by a group of people interested in pursuing the bonsai art form and related horticulture. The objectives of the Society are to promote enjoyment and participation in the art form, to supply and coordinate information in related matters, and to advance appreciation and education through exhibits and programs. The BSLV meets monthly (except July, August & December) sponsoring programs and activities that teach various aspects of bonsai. We invite guests not only from the United States but from around the world to speak to our members. The Society holds workshops and clinics to assist members with plant related problems. Bus trips are taken periodically to such locations as the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum, to view master bonsai collections. Other major activities include a members' exhibit and an annual picnic/auction. The annual auction offers a chance for members to trade, sell and buy plants and related materials.
